God is Good

This morning I woke up to this song playing in my spirit on loop. It lead me to finally open up my Bible and look at the question I have been mulling over for the last 3 days… What is good and bad? Now I believe I know this answer, but it was if I needed a refresher in what the Word says.

Yayyyyyy, Bible study time!!!

So I started this study by looking at Romans 12:1-2

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Already God corrected a small thought I had which was; based on the world there are things that are good and bad…

Incorrect, because we called to not be conformed to the world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind I can’t think like that, otherwise that thought has the possibility of taking me away from what God says and calls me to follow.

I can’t allow the world to shape my thoughts at all.

Then I moved onto the good, acceptable and perfect will of God section. What does that mean Lord? What is good? As I asked God this question I was guided to James 4:17

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬

Which didn’t really answer my question, but showed me two things. One that we need to know good AND that we need to do it. So I asked the question again, what is good?

“Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It wasn’t until I read this that I realised my question was wrong. It is not a question of what but of who… Who is good and how do I get to know it? God. God is good. God alone is good. Then things started to fall into place.

God is good.

Without knowing God we can do no good.

By knowing God we can do good.

But if we know what is good and don’t do it, we sin.

Sin is the absence of God.

In order to know good, we must know God. We get to know God by studying HIs word, by having conversations with Him, exploring His creation, learning about His character, looking at our example (Jesus) and how He lived and actioning/walking as He has called us to. Now we cannot do any of this in our own strength and because we no longer live under the law we need to lean on something that can now guide us in all things. This is the Holy Spirit’s role. He guides us in ALL truth, it is not by our own strength that we can get to know God AND do His good works, but by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.”

‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

And so my Bibile study/time with God concluded in this way:

God is good. Without God, I can do no good and will walk in sin. Because we are no longer under the law does not mean God has let go of wanting to be in the intricate details of my life, we have a been gifted with the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things big and small of God.

God is good, Jesus showed us how to know God and to walk in His goodness and the Holy Spirit guides us in all things of God, helping us live like Jesus.

God is good, all the time.
